Single Page Website - Is it for you?

If it’s a trendy, artistic and novel way you’re looking to showcase yourself, the services you provide, or a particular product, look no further than creating a single page website. Being simple and imaginative at the same time, you can use your artistic license to create a website which is big on design but short on content.

Keep the content short
Single Page websites are highly popular these days among designers and other creative professionals who want to advertise themselves or their products in a novel and eye-catching way. It’s always the design in such 1-page websites which are meant to particularly stand out. In order to keep the integrity of the design, you ought to pay particular attention to the content on such single page websites. I would advise you to keep the content short and sweet; but to the point to keep your viewers interested. As I pointed out earlier, the longer the content, the cloudier the design would become. And this would make the whole idea of a single page or 1 page website questionable.

Have a blog attached to the website
A great way to introduce content to your website without it actually being there to affect the design would be to have a blog attached to the site. This would mean that the truly interested readers can further read stuff about you or your services but still retain the eye candy of the website. Also having a blog is a great way to improve on Search Engine Optimisation or SEO. Rather than shelling out truckloads of money to get an SEO professional to optimise your single page website for better rankings, have your own blog attached to the website and update it as frequently as you can with appropriate write up. Search Engines love fresh content and having a blog helps you do just that. Write about your latest venture or even about a new promotion. Thus in simple words, I would say, having a blog for a one page website actually lets you have your cake and eat it too!

Eye Catching Design
Single page website are particularly useful if the service or product you’re offering is trendy and aspirational. If it’s a particular product you want to showcase, look no further as you can let your artistic genius flow and design the page to look like a huge poster or even an art canvas. There are so many eye catching ways you can choose to design such a 1-page site, you’ll be at a loss which one to pick. Also, these one-page sites are great and are already very popular among designers, photographers or other such artistic professionals as you get to advertise your service in a truly unique and innovative way, leaving your customer in awe while just looking at the website.

Example of a Single Page Website
Here is an example of a single-page website design by our team at Avatar In Design.

We came up with this sleek, stylish and attractive website for a professional photographer based in Chennai, India. The photographer was providing a relatively new concept of wedding photography which is documentary in style. This idea is already quite popular in the west but new to the Indian market. The client approached us with an open mind and was very excited when we proposed the idea of a single page website for his business. Again, such an idea was just up-coming in India and wasn’t yet that popular among artists. It seemed quite ideal to us and luckily to our client as well to take a calculated risk and go on to develop a 1-page website to showcase a new aspirational service using a similarly new media concept for the Indian market.

Single Page Website - Striking display of client’s projects
The one page website that we have come up for this client acts as an exhibition of his best work so far with the simplest design imaginable. The website is divided into six portions. The first portion of this single page website is a full page banner which displays the most striking images from the client’s latest projects. Below this banner is a menu of five sections; each of which takes you further down the page to each of the subsections listed in the menu. Clicking a photo listed in sections 1 and 2 automatically takes you to separate link in a cloud storage, where we suggested the client store these collections. This helps to keep the integrity of the 1-page website design without clutter.

Concise information, Social Media
Lastly, sections 4 and 5 of this single page website very briefly give us essential information about the photographer, the gear he uses, the services he offers and finally about how to get in touch with him which is the most important bit for business. The client has kept the content concise just as we recommended and this has helped preserve the sleek design and overall feel of the website. It has also helped that he is a regular blogger and active social networker and the links to this blog and social media are displayed continuously as you scroll up or down the site.
